What is your audience looking for right now?
No need for a crystal ball on this one. All you need to do is check your analytics – the numbers never lie. Your website and your social media platforms give you information about your most popular pages and posts.
Check your analytics
You can also dig a little deeper by reviewing your audience demographics. How old are they? Where do they live? All these things can help you paint a clearer picture of what your audience is looking for.
If you haven’t set up Google Analytics and Google Search Console then you need to get onto that pronto. Both of them are free to use and give you lots of useful information.
Looking into social media
Now that you’re tracking your analytics you’ll also want to review social media. All social media platforms are searchable. Find out what people are talking about in your niche.
Think about different hashtags or search terms to look at and listen to the conversations that are taking place – social listening is a great tool to have in your toolkit. This is a fantastic way to discover the language people are using so you can do the same.
Now, this armchair research is useful but at some point, you are going to have to talk to people. Yes, actual conversations.
Reaching out to your audience
There’s no need to feel awkward. People in your community value your work and what you have to say, that’s why they are following you in the first place. Asking them directly what their issues are and how you can help them is the quickest and easiest way to get answers. It’s also a great way to get to know your community better too.
A conversation starter I like to use is: “What’s the biggest problem you are facing right now? If you could swallow a magic pill what one issue would it solve for you immediately?”. Finding out what your audience wants doesn’t have to be complicated – it can be as easy as simply reaching out to them and let me tell you, they’ll love you for it.
Direct message people, send them a video message or ask if you can book a Zoom call with them. They’ll welcome the opportunity to talk to you in return for helping you to figure out how to serve them better. It’s a win-win for you and your customers.
